Huh ? What is your complaint ?
It's illegal to ride your bike on the sidewalk.
Wheeled vehicles are to ride with (not against) traffic on the street.
SideWALKS are for pedestrians only. That's why they are not called sideRIDES........
The chalk was used to get dopes to stop riding on the sidewalk.
Hey Mark.......looks as though this continues to be an issue, and will likely not be resolved easily, because there are obnoxious rule-ignoring "all about me" motorists and bike riders, and let's add the illegal ATV and dirt bike riders.
Lawlessness rules, unfortunately, and people get injured and killed because of it.
Riding bikes on the sidewalk may be safer for the rider, but it's not safer for pedestrians.
It's a conundrum.
Three weeks ago I saw a friend lecturing a bike rider regarding sidewalk riding. I chatted with him after as he was a bit shaken and explained that the police do give tickets for it. Two weeks ago the same guy rode up to me and told me that he asked a police officer and that I had been misinformed. Apparently the NHPD are not enforcing this policy anymore as it was only a tactic to be able to search potential criminals. All of word of mouth but sounds pretty in-line with my understanding.
All that said, I wish more people would bike in the street.
Ben........the New Haven cops must be misinformed then, because it is ILLEGAL to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk.
Common sense, and illegal, period, amen.
Maybe the cops simply don't care about enforcement, but it's dangerous for pedestrians.
I would agree that defacing the sidewalk with chalk is not a major offense, but it is likely not legal, either. That is public property.
